Who is the IBEW?

True Nonprofits

Unions like to claim they are similar to a nonprofit organization, but true nonprofits put the majority of their spending into programs instead of on overhead (staff, offices, etc.). The industry standard is to invest at least 65% in their programs.

According to the Forbes Top Charities list for 2021, the top 100 charities invested an average of 87% in their programs.

IBEW Spending

According to their own financial statement, the IBEW had a total income of more than $1.4 Billion in 2021, yet only spent 4.3% on Representational Activities, including strike payments. The rest was spent on salaries, benefits and perks, office space and equipment, and other overhead expenses.

From 2000 to 2021, the IBEW National lost 49,469 members, or just about 7% of their total membership. Yet in 2021, the IBEW National collected 128% more while with fewer members.  Dues, along with fines, fees and assessments, are the major source of a union’s income. How safe is your wallet?
